Any options for TWC digital adapter requirement

Now I need digital adapters on any TV that doesn't have a cable box.
Is there any viable option?
Are newer TV's able to receive digital cable signal without an adapter?
Adapters are free for 15 months then $2.67/unit/month. That's crazy.

Is it time to switch to Roku and netflix? Will that allow me to dump the cable?
