Are we being edged to ku?

Just read my OnSat magazine article about Motorola and 4DTV (being
compared to Betamax) then the "expansion" coming to our services
on X4 (ku) -- i get the feeling we're being herded to receiving the
same programming the small dishes offer -- in the same format -- until
there's going to be no difference. (ie: no quality differences) as an
advantage. Just another "solution" by the ?industry? to nudge us over
to the small dish, eventually.

I'm just soaking in a little misery, here. Having had a small dish and
C-band simutaneously a while back (i do like those PPV movies),
switching from the same show ku band to c band is like when i put
my glasses on in the morning -- no comparison in clarity. (of course
c-band wins).

Nothing to say, really, just seeing too many things in this country
going "mediocre", when quality is already available.

For my part, i just watched a laser-disc last night. And i do still
have my betamax connected. My next big decision (many decades
ahead, i hope) is whether to retire to a nursing home or be put
in a museum. Either way, I am taking my big dish with me!

I saw nothing in the OnSat article that most of us did not know 4 or 5 years ago.
Basically what it means is that GI/Mot will not be developing any new C-Band receivers
and probably will not be updating the 4DTV firmware. Whoever wrote that article must
get their rocks by generating anxiety. There is nothing new there.
