Hi all,

I am looking to buy a new laptop, that can be used for gaming and that I can also run multiple virtual machines on, for its other purpose.

I have narrowed it down to the 2 machines below, as they fit my budget.

I'm wondering, what is the better option considering the gpu and processors of either of these 2 choices:

-Option 1, ASUS ROG G751JT-DB73 has a i7-4720hq paired with gtx 970m 3gb

Or:

- Option 2:ASUS ROG GL752VW-DH74 with i7-6700 paired with gtx 960m 4gb
http://store.asus.com/us/item/201510AM170008067/A17602

Both have 16gb Ram, with 2 additional open slots for upgrades. Ssd boot drives (256 for gl751/128 gl752) and additional tb hdd drives. Both are about the same price.

Pls let me know your thoughts of which is better processor and gpu combo here? Which one should I get?

...and any other suggestions I should look at about 1250-1300$? (Any brand, preferably 17.., open to 15..)

All opinions welcomed!

Thanks!

P.S. playing fps type games, possibly some mmo rpg, sports. (Probably spend more time still playing on Xbox one or ps4 though, so not my everyday gaming machine)

I say they both have equal importance. Really I think its almost an excuse to buy gaming laptop. I think I can run my vms on my hp 9470 i7 with 16gb ram pretty well, but as I want to buy a decent gaming laptop, I'm justifying the high price, by also using it for virtual machines as well, as they poll will run better on one of these options I'm looking at.

I guess my biggest questionsecret are:

-what's better option, go with better gpu gtx 970m 3gb and 4th Gen i7-4720hq, ddr3...

-Or is it better to go with better i7, 6th gen skylake, i7-6700, ddr4, but lesser gpu, only gtx 960m 4gb?

-also, now considering:
ASUS ROG GL752VW-DH71 Intel i7 2.6GHz 16GB DDR4 1TB HDD GTX960M 2GB.
This is cheaper by 200, same specs, minus ssd, and 960m 2g vs 960m 4gb..

Or, maybe this option, better gpu gtx 965, skylake 6th gen, i-7, ddr4, no ssd, and a little more than I'd like to spend..
ASUS ROG G752VL-DH71 Intel i7 2.6GHz 16GB Memory 1TB HDD GTX965M 2GB http://store.asus.com/us/item/201509AM220002986/A17602

So again, I guess I'm wondering.., should i go with..I could always upgrade and add drives, but can't upgrade processor, or gpu. And does 960m 2gb vs 960m 4gb make a big difference? I believe 965, 970 is significamt improvement overy the 960, bUT the processor lol.. so what you guys think???

-1) better gpu 970m 3gb and older i7, ssd, plus hdd? 1250$
-2) Or newer i7 and decent gpu, 960 4gb, ssd? 1270$
-3)Or thicker unit, 965 gpu, newer i7, no ssd, and 250$ more? 1500$
-4)or newer i7 an decent gpu, 960 but only 2gb, no ssd, just hdd? 1000$

I'd get the #1 option with the older i7 and GTX 970m. The 6xxx i7s vs the 4xxx i7s aren't that much different in performance, skylake only has a 10% boost in performance. Plus you still get quad cores either way, so you should be able to run the VMs just fine. Plus your gaming will look gorgeous with the GTX 970M.
