Asus gaming laptop (which will end up used for a lot more.)

After a few months of researching what brand, or laptop series I want to buy from I’ve decided Asus gaming laptops seems the best overall choice in quality, specs and what I need. However I’ll admit I do get lost with some of the more technical side of laptop hunting.
My last laptop was a Mac Pro, with very minimal specs. Could say this is my first “real” laptop.
Uses for new laptop. Schoolwork, gaming, photography. (Would plan to buy external screen later down road, but would be nice to have a screen nice enough that I could survive without getting that right away.)
Not afraid to spend little extra if it means having a setup that I (hopefully) wouldn’t have to replace for four-five years.
Would prefer 15 inch screen, so least slightly portable if need be.

Appreciate and thank you for any help, whether its tips, or stories from your own dealings with Asus.
