ASUS Hard Drive - Replace and restore Windows 8

Dropped laptop = hard drive failure. I purchased a replacement hard drive from DiscTech, but I do not have recovery disks. ASUS says they dont offer recover disks for Windows 8 and I need to send them the laptop to replace hard drive and restore operating system. Can I install the new SATA hard drive and restore operating system without sending to ASUS?

You can buy Windows 8 (if the laptop had Windows 8 on it to start with) and install it on the new drive. Then download the drivers from Asus.
