Asus laptop shuts off randomly

So, I have had my Asus X54C for about 1 and a half years, and until about 3 weeks ago it was fine. And then randomly, on Google Docs, it shuts off. OK, so I thought the battery died, and so I plugged the laptop in, and turned on the power. It said, "Starting Windows", but although I said to Windows to hibernate when the battery reaches 5%, but it had shut down fully. And the battery had about 30 to 35% battery left. So my mind literally blows up in anger and rage as this computer died so randomly. But I did not smash anything, and if it shuts off, and I do not plug it in, it shuts off in more succession, from a minute to right after the BIOS does a hardware check. Can someone help?

Sounds like it could be overheating, if you can run it for a little while and feel different parts of it's body if it feels really hot then it could be overheating. And the thermal paste ASUS uses is crap as well.

Well, it was running at about 55C at that moment (recoreded by Speedfan).

Hmm...would that be the CPU or GPU? That seems to run pretty cool there. (Given which component has that temp and if it's idle or underload.)

Well, Speedfan records the 2 cores, but not the GPU. The GPU was under a very low load, on Google Docs, and some other school things, so it should be as cool also.

Hmm...so it's not overheating...sorry, but I may not be able to help you out with this one bud. But try refering to the guy who posted above. Once again sorry.

Not only on Google Docs, but at school only, running off battery. When I plug it in, it does not happen.

Sounds like you've got a faulty battery there. If the battery gets too hot while it's used it will overheat causing the whole system to shut down. If you replace the battery it should work fine, given that you don't get another faulty one.
