Asus, Lenovo, or Dell

Hi All,

Please help me choose a laptop. We will buy a new laptop for my sister and have narrowed our choices to Asus k42f vx235, Lenovo 6450 59052861 and I forgot the model for Dell. Anyway, specs for the three are similar and prices are within the budget so we just have to pick among them. Thanks!

Where will she be using the laptop? Home, away at school, etc? Will you rely upon the manufacturer to provide technical support or will you/she? Do you require/desire extended warranty support?

All of them (home, away at school). Not much with the technical support, she just need a durable, all purpose laptop which will last for 5 years.

Then I would strongly suggest either the Dell or Lenovo with an extended warranty. Be sure to go with a business class machine that is designed to take the use and abuse of travel as well. Don't go with a consumer class system as they generally aren't designed with that sort of longevity in mind. When purchasing your warranty, make sure you select an option where the vendor will come to you and fix in your location, regardless of where you are (useful if your sister is away at school).

My Dell Inspiron 9300 has lasted me over 5 years. I haven't had any major issues that didn't arise from my use (gaming = keyboard and palmrest wear). I bought mine with the CompleteCare 3 year (now called the Advanced service). I probably didn't need to buy it, but it gave me some peace of mind. ^^
