Asus r704a wont turn on. Replaced power cord- worked for a while. Did a youtube repair-worked for a while. Purchased new battery-just received and inserted-still nothing. No lights no nothing. Does it need to charge for a while? Shouldnt lights be on?

Ok while waiting for a response I took the whole thing apart. Unplugged this board inside (sorry no idea what it was)(about 3"x2" blue with a round quarter-sized disc on it and a bunch of solder dots) reinserted it. Put laptop back together. Rebooted without battery. Plugged in battery and power cord and got a red light. So its charging. We'll see for how long.

When you buy a replacement battery it's advised to discharge it by using the battery until the laptop shuts down on it's own(abruptly). Some battery's also come pre-charged from the factory but it's possible yours didn't come that way. You then have to charge the battery for 8 hours or until the battery full indicator comes up and then discharge the battery a couple of times(perhaps 3~4 times).

After the 4th time of recharging the battery should be able to resume with normal battery backup.

While you were on your old battery did you see any lights when the battery used to charge? If so then yes there should be lights.
