While the passive cooling is OK for the chip I worry about the video RAM on the Asus Strix card. I do not know how hot GDDR5 runs or if it needs a breeze of cool air passing over it. GDDR3 ran hot, I know that.
Some people are saying they would prefer a low spin fan curve on the Strix and I agree. The video RAM chips sit under the heatsink area and if the fans were turning slowly it would pass cooling on to them.
