Hi all.

I've recently resurrected an Asus UX31 (new hdd and battery) and everything is chugging along nicely.

Only exception is I cannot get audio from the internal speaker or from the headphones (red cross on the speaker in the system tray) - the only way to get audio from the laptop is via HDMI.

Have tried everything I can think of - uninstalling/reinstalling drivers etc. all to no avail so any suggestions would be great.

The only thing I can think of is that somehow the hdmi output sensor (?) is thinking it's permanently plugged in...

Cheers

Did you try the following...

  1. Go to "Control Panel".
  2. Click on "Sound".
  3. Make sure you are on the "Playback" tab.
  4. Click on the speakers to highlight them. Not to open.
  5. Right click on them and choose to set them as the "Default device".
  6. The click "Apply" and "OK".
  7. Now plug in the headphones in the 3.5mm jack and then try the same thing with them.
  8. Once done Click "Apply" and "OK" and see if it works now.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion.

Under the playback tab of control panel there's only the one option - the HDMI TV. I've also tried right clicking in the empty space and have 'show disabled devices' selected but still nothing.

Any suggestions given this info?

Alright - I thought that might be the case. I might open it up and make sure all the connections are clean/clear etc. and if that doesn't solve it I'll get a tech. to look at it.

Thanks for the advice :)
