Asus x401U Black Screen before boot

Hi, i have some problems with my laptop, usually I just lurk around here, but today got some guts so i made myself an account.
I have an Asus x401U, it came with Windows 8 pre-installed; and UEFI on the MOBO too.
Everything worked perfectly before certain update, then, it would boot to a blue screen saying something about a /BCD error; after that, i used Puppy Linux to backup the important data, then used the Windows 8 Repair Tools in automatic mode; to my surprise, after that, not even that blue screen, everything went black screen, but with the screen backlight on.
Puppy Linux live-cd still works, but the windows 8 disk wont, neither do my HDD.
Please someone coud give me a hand?

Access your Windows 8 repair tools and open a command prompt

Type in
Bootrec /fixmbr
Bootrec /fixboot
Bootrec /rebuildbcd

It should solve the BCD error

Thanks, but, sadly, i cant boot to the repair tools, neither from the installed OS, or even from a USB, it goes to that black screen, making weird noises from time to time

Hi alanoide97, I had lots of trouble with asus x401u being very very slow, virtually useless to run windows on. It would run Puppy Linux OK just windows was a problem. Recently I replaced the hard drive with a solid state drive (SSD drive) and reinstalled a fresh copy of windows 7. The computer is now very usable, I was surprised what an improvement the SSD made.
My advice would be to install a SSD.
