ASUS X401U OS Question

I have a ASUS X401U netbook, just mainly use it for research and some email and such around office. Its 4gb ram, with the e2-1800 APU, Running windows 8.1 X64. Just wandering on a unit like this, as this is my first lower end computer in a long time. Would it be best to drop down to windows 7 X86.........It is sluggish at times, and just wandering if going to 7 and 32bit will help or not?
