Hi there fellas. So a friend's mom handed me her laptop saying it wouldn't charge anymore. After visual inspection the power jack was pushed way back into the case and the plug simply wouldn't reach. So I disassembled the whole thing following this video :

Now here's the catch. The power jack is fine, the problem is that the socket in which it sits has been broken. Here's a picture (don't worry I will be cleaning it extensively before returning it. I don't know how it got that dirty inside...):

Now if you look closely you can see under the power jack some sort of residue from perhaps glue or something adhesive that probably helped hold it in place. My question is: how do I solve this mess? Can I glue it? I'm fairly certain that's a horrible idea hence why I'm asking you guys.

Thanks in advance!

A two-part epoxy-resin glue like Araldite should do the job without doing any harm whatsoever. It's amazing how strong that stuff is. You can buy it in a twin syringe pack now or a twin tubes pack: http://www.go-araldite.com/products/epoxy-adhesives/araldite-rapid-2-x-15ml-tube

I used it to bond the heater distribution linkage under the dash of an old car. The linkage bush (plastic) snapped clean in half while operating the heater controls. I bonded it in situ (good job I'm skinny!) with Araldite and it never snapped again even after four years.
