Asus X550LB external mic not working

Hi! I have a Asus X550Lb with a realtek HD sound card with only one entrance for both mic and speakers and when I plug a external mic to the laptop he is recognised as a speaker and my internal speakers stop working. I have tried a cable to divide the canals but the problem continues. Can someone help me? (and sorry for the bad english)

You must have the correct cable, some cables split the signal into two, you get two headphones. The cable I mentioned is designed to split the signals between the headset and microphone.

Can you explain me whats the difference between them? Is it just the simbols?

How many rings do you have at the end of the cable you put in the laptop jack, you should have four rings, if you have only three, it's not the right cable you have.
