asus x58l no power up but lights flash for second

hi all

hoping to find answers i have a asus x58l laptop that reefuses to power up, the chaging light is on when plugged in, but when pressing power button the sleep and wireless lights flash green for a second then go again no fan spinning no disk drive spinning and black screen what coulkd be wrong i have checked the ram and cpu they are all ok as far as i can tell. any help or advice would be much appreciated.

F.Y.I laptop is years old and out of warranty and in uk so dont know about asus repair shop.

quick update i changed the bios battery nd now the sleep light is flashing permently wiyth no screen nothing
