Does anyone have any ideas?

I wish to have 2 x Headphones and microphone to be able to talk to each other along with cd player that both can listen to along with a possible recrding facility. I have the recorder which will be in mp3.

I have 2 x headphone sets with 3.5mm plugs.

Anyone able to shed a light on my plans?

you need an audio mixer, you need a headphone splitter.
whether it's a cheap DJ mixer, or a pro mixer, either one will work...it's got to have at least 2 microphone inputs, that's common. and you need cable adapters to plug everything in. Pretty much any mixer will have headphone output.
