audio jack extension

Is there a way to extend a TV audio jack so that when you plug headphones into the extension sound goes to the headphones, but when you remove the headphones from the extension, the sound returns to the internal speakers. I want the extension cable to remain in place, since the jack is on the back side of my flat screen TV, and very hard to get at.

Is not the cable, is the jack that is soldered in place on the back of the TV, once you plug something in, it physically opens a circuit, it's mechanical, it cannot be replicated remotely. Unless you are willing to risk opening the TV, unsolder a couple of connections...
