audio latency with dvd player WAS [help with setup please]

now that I have reconfigured my setup to allow for the recording of DVDs on
my RTV, I have an audio latency problem. When I play a DVD the audio comes
about 2 seconds late and the actors look like they are out of an old kung fu
movie. Their mouths are moving, but the words don't match up properly. Its
sort of funny, but after awhile is very annoying and forces me to turn it
off.

This all started happening when I moved the re-routed the S-Video out on the
DVD player from the S-Video IN on my TV to the S-Video IN on the RTV. Do I
need to have an S-Video cable on the RTV out running to the TV?

Your problem is that you're only routing the video. The encoding
process takes over a second, so to keep the video and audio in sync,
you need to also route audio through the RTV.

In general, bad idea as you lose the 5.1 audio from the DVD, there's a
loss of quality, etc. Unless you have a specific reason for running
the DVD through the Replay (eg, you want to make a large, low quality
copy of a movie).
A better thing to use to route all your video is a nice audio receiver.

i do have a pretty nice, albeit older, JVC audio receiver. do I just have
the audio go from the RTV to the JVC to the TV?

My DVD hook up is S-Video to the 5504, for Video and RCA for audio,
Broadcast antenna to the RF-in (Ant/Cable) and RF-out to Tv network,
Line out to VCR/ATI card (no audio to ati card) and usually watch the
shows using DV-Archive on a computer ... Somewhere else (I sneaker net
the programs ,,, Actually the entire computer, it's a laptop. I"m typing
on it as I type now) Never have that problem... The problem I have is
that suddenly it works like this Th e q uick br own fo x ju mpe d
over th e la zy... Well I'm sure you recognize the classic "The
quick brown fox" line but as you can see... That's no fun to read or
listen to... (I'm using Power DVD with Elcard Monlight codecs on board)

The soultion is to touch the navigation slider it turns out

Record mode seems not to matter

Sync has always been perfect CD-Player is a MinTeck
