audio works with DVD, but not thru cable box

i want to hook up surround-JVC DVD surround with directv to RCA HD TV, how do i do that?

you can start by actually listing some model numbers of what you have so we have an idea of what the products are capable of...

as of right now i can only make assumptions that the reason you are having trouble is because you have a cheap HTIB system which often have issues when connecting up to aux sources. once we know what equipment we are dealing with i can say for sure whats going on.
