So I have avg free as my protection but Ive read some disturbing things about a once rogue software disguised as avg. Also my computer came with a free one year MacAfee subscription. I'm wondering first of all how to tell if the AVG software is legit. I scanned it with windows safety scanner and it came back clean. Shouldn't there be a way to cross reference some kind of file name to make sure its legit? And second ive heard MacAfee isn't great and also other strange posts claiming it was itself a virus. I'm getting overwhelmed. I'm a gamer so system performance is important but protection is also very important as I download mods and that's about it. Can some experts help me out please?

Couple of things here -- did you install AVG from either our official website or an approved distribution site? If so, then you should be safe :) https://www.avg.com

Also, it's generally not recommended to have two active scanning programs running at once, this can cause a lot of issues with your PC.

Yes I did. And I was under the impression windows safety scanner was the only safe scanner to use while having another antivirus program installed as long as you didn't have any active scans going that would cause conflict.
