Battery will not charge

About five months out of warranty (Best Buy 3-year Maintenance Agreement), my battery in my p55t-a5402 Toshiba laptop quit charging. I recently lost my powerpack and adapter cords. I found a generic replacement set that is recognized by the laptop for operating purposes, but there's still no charging happening. Whaa-a-a?
