Best customization for Sager NP9570

Greetings,

I've been considering to buy Sager's NP9570 some time next year:

And, though I've seen some items that have caught my attention, I'm still wondering if my choices would indeed make the best out of this laptop. My budget for this is $3000 (though I'm willing to go up $100 or $200 if it's worth it).

Don't "redline boost" your OS. That to me seems like wasted money. If you want to have your gpu(s) factory OC thats fine. use that $55 and do yourself a favor upgrading those terrible 5400rpm drives to 3 7200rpm 1tb drives( $60 more total). everything else seems pretty rockin. (I am jelous!!). Hope this helps

I was also thinking of changing the first HDD for the "1TB 5400RPM (w/ 8GB SSD Memory) Seagate Hybrid 64MB Cache [SATA III - 6GB/s]" one.

I would stay away from 5400rpm drives in general, they are VERY slow

Ah, I see. Thanks a lot again.
I wanted a SSD one, since I had read it was better to have one drive dedicated to the OS.
But I suppose it really isn't that necessary, and I can go for 3 1TB 7200rpm HDDs instead.

I think I'll also wait a month or two and see if CLEVO releases a new version of this laptop with improved audio, since the reviews I've read for this say that though the NP9570 is a monster of a machine, for the price you pay, the audio really is mediocre.
Though I don't think that should be MUCH of an issue (I can always connect it to my TV or use headphones), I'd still prefer to wait to see if they improve on that and get the best use of all the money I'd be paying for this (around US$3200).

Don't invest this much money into a gaming system and opt out of getting a SSD. They make a world of difference in overall performance compared to mechanical drives. Even the hybrid drive would be a bit better (despite the RPM rating) than a conventional mechanical drive.

If you can squeeze it into your budget with your other configurations, consider a SSD - particularly the Samsung 840 Pro or an Intel SSD.

SSD's are good, but he would have to cut into something like the GPU and for maximum gaming performance, you can do without an SSD. especially if the drive is a 7200rpm

He might, yes, but that's subjective to his configuration. $3k is quite the budget and even if OP upgrades to a 780M, he still has plenty of flexible spending room for other upgrades. Personally, I think the GPU upgrade to the 780M and a SSD should be priorities in the build. A lot of the base options are plenty adequate as are.

770M Sli > 780M. His budget doesn't permit 780m sli and he is already over budget. While ssds are good they aren't a very good use of money when maxing out the ultimate gaming laptop. I do however think a single 1tb 7200rpm hdd + a 120gb ssd is better than doing the 3 1tb 7200rpm hdd in raid 5

Go bare bones on the storage to save so you can upgrade for less on your own and the same for the ram. The cpu and graphics are up to you but you already going for the best as is.

I can't promote SLI very aggressively as not all games are apt to utilize it, but when they do, yes: a 770M x 2 would outperform a single 780M. We've had customers change from a SLI configuration to a single 780M simply because the games they were playing were not developed for SLI; something to look into, Mr Ozymandias! If you're into overclocking, the 780M has lots of OC potential too.

Anyhow, luckily things have been rather good for me, and I managed to get an extra job, which has given me a significant rise in my income and thus the extra money I like to allocate in my own entertainment. So, I decided to increase the budget for this laptop to $4000.
It seems Sager is no longer offering the 770M, thus I just decided to go crazy and get the GTX 880M SLI.

Taking the increase in budget into account, would you advise me to get 2 1TB HDDs and 1 SSD, or should I stick to the 3 1TB?
In addition, something I've been wondering is if I'd be better off getting 16GB RAM in Quad Channel or Dual Channel. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what the difference is.

Go with however many storage drives you think you will need as far as data storage is concerned. Unless you need 2 TB - 3 TB of storage space, one hard drive and one SSD should be perfect.

Quad channel operation yields a bit of a performance increase, especially in memory intensive applications. But to be honest, the dual channel vs quad channel debate has raged on for awhile. The consensus seems to be that there is little to no discernible difference in real-world usage, only in benchmarks.

I was looking at this laptop too buy for my gaming and I will put 2x240gb SSD'S in raid 0 on the 6gb interface here's why the sager np9570 use's the x79 chipset it holds 3 drives in the laptop but only 2drive bays are on a 6gb interface so if u but 3x7200 rpm drives in this laptop the drives will backward clock to the slower 3gb interface gives u slower load times with your OS and gaming will load slower also I would go with the 16gb of ram because the CPU will leave more of its data in the ram giving u little better performance because it will pig the SSD'S 62% less giving you about 40% long life of the SSD's and I would make sure u get both power bricks with the laptop for max performance moreover I wouldn't buy there SSD'S because there over priced you can buy good drives from NEWEGG.COM
