I'm going to college this year for electrical engineering and I need a new laptop.
The specs they recommend:
i7 processor
1 tb Hard Drive
SSD
8 gb Ram
4gb dedicated graphics card
Now I also occasionally like to play video games so I would like a laptop that would run games pretty decent. I looked into some gaming laptops but there so big and what I would call unique with all the colors I wasn't really interested. I just need a laptop that is as thin as I can get and looks like a basic laptop I don't want all the color schemes and everything like that

I was in computer science/engineering in college. I did some GPU computing programming classes and never needed a big expensive computer to run any thing. I would recommend buying an Nvidia graphics card as my university had a research deal which your may have as well. I don't think you really need a core i7 unless you are doing lots of heavy CPU stuff. Save some money get a better GPU and screen.

You can also check this website it gives you some good information on what you can expect with your laptop.

Okay, becxause I was looking at the Dell XPS 15 cause I like the slim design and the look of the laptop overall. So what you are saying is it would be in my interest just to get the i5 version and save some money and maybe upgrade the ram or space then buy the i7 version...?
