Hey, I am currently in the market for a new headset for gaming, I am looking to go for a headphones+mic setup. The mic I will most likely be using is the Audio-Technica AT2020 but I do not know which headphones will be good in terms of great audio. I am also willing to buy a 'gaming headset' but prefer the headphones+mic setup. My budget is around $220 AUD.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Oh and one more thing, I don't really want USB Headphones/Headsets, am wanting to also use them for my phone.

Solution
what type of headphones suit you depends on your preferences and needs.

the ad700x or ad900x have a great wide soundstage but lack any real bass whatsoever so are great for competitive fps players wanting to hear every footstep but not so good for most casuals.

the hd598 have a wide sounstage but not as wide as the previous and are just a tad more bassy.

the hd558 are have slightly less sound quality, soundstage but more bass than the 598.

the m50 has a very small soundstage (they are closed not open headphones) so are not often recommended unless someone is a bass head since these push out more bass than most open cans.

not listed are the beyerdynamic dt770 and 990. the 770 are like better m50's and the 990's are about the best you can buy without getting excessive on price though i'm not sure if they are over your budget or not. the 990s have a wide open soundstage while still having decent bass so they are almost win-win but are hard to drive and need an amplifier.

if you pick the hd598 or hd558 its a sure choice as you cannot go wrong there.

edit... one more note...

when you pick out the at2020 make sure you get the at2020usb+ version and not the one with the xlr plug as to use the xlr plug model you would need a special phantom adapter or mixer while the usb version is plug and play.
