Best home theatre setup for around $1000?

I really would love to have an amazing speaker set up for a slightly small room that has been recently converted into a 'man cave'. I would want to use this set up for gaming, watching movies, and just watching tv shows in general. My budget at most is $1000 (not sure if thats a small amount for a nice home theatre set up, like I said I am a huge novice when it comes to this type of stuff... but that is not to say I am willing to settle for terrible sound quality).

Any recommendations on what I should buy?

I've been very happy with my older Onkyo HT-S3200 5.1 Surround Sound System, so I'd be comfortable recommending any of their newer systems like the HT-S3700 5.1 or the HT-S5700 5.1.
