Hi all,
I am about to begin a 1 year Master's course and am looking to purchase a new laptop for mainly everyday use (word, chrome, excel usage etc). I have shortlisted the following 8 laptops and wondered what people's thoughts were? I want the best spec with respect to value. Particularly want touch screen capability (the Lenovo flex i5 15.6' is my favourite at the moment for £366 reduced from £510 but has no SSD). I want a good laptop that will be fully functional post masters where I'll be working in consulting so a laptop is practical given the travelling involved in such a job.
Whilst I am aware my basic usage is not particularly load draining, I still would like my laptop to be quick and have no lag when using several office documents/many Chrome tabs at once (I am aware this is nothing compared to using CAD and other load draining apps which I have no plan on using).
I am tempted by an SSD but unsure if it's required/needed for my use combined with the following specs. The prices I have put include an applied discount I am gaining from the store.
1) Lenovo Flex 2 14' (£308)
Dual core i3-4030U (1.9 GHZ), 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD, LED Touch screen (1366 x 768 pixels)
2) Lenovo Flex 2 15.6' (£366)
Dual core i5-4210U (1.7-2.7 GHZ with turbo), 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, LED Touch screen (1920 x 1080 pixels)
3) Lenovo Flex 2 15.6 SSD (£470)
Dual core i7-4510U (2-3.1 GHZ with turbo), 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, LED screen (1920 x 1080 pixels)
4) Asus TP300LA 13.3' Flipbook (£308)
Dual core i3-4010U (1.7 GHZ) 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, LED Touch screen (1366 x 768 pixels)
5) Asus TP300LA 13.3' Flipbook (£484)
Dual core i7-5500U (2.4 - 3 GHZ with turbo), 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, LED Touch screen (1366 x 768 pixels)
6) Asus TP550LA 15.6' Flipbook (£484)
Dual core i5-5200U (2.2-2.7 GHZ with turbo), 8GB RAM, 750GB HDD, LED Touch screen (1366 x 768 pixels)
7) Lenovo U330 Touch 13.3' Ultrabook (£434)
Dual core i7-4500U (1.8-3 GHZ with turbo), 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD + 8GB SSD, LED Touch screen (1366 x 768 pixels)
8) Lenovo 15.6' Z50 (£434)
Dual core i7-4510U (2-3.1 GHZ with turbo), 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD + 8GB SSD, LED Touch screen (1920 x 1080 pixels)
Thank you in advance,
Tom
