I'm looking to buy a 55 in around 1500. 3D isn't a must and I don't care about features. All I care about is picture. I'll be using it mostly for watching blu ray and games.
Any opinions on what looks amazing for that price range?

If you're already sold on the idea of LCD, the Sony EX640 is a good deal right now at just above 1350. The other one right now that really stands out is the Samsung UE6000. It doesn't have any of the smart TV functions, but features the same panel as the rest of the 6000 series. At $1100, it's an extremely good buy. You could also look at the 55 inch Panasonic 55ST50 For about 1300.

sony bravia 60hz led - without smart tv or any other features.

you should be able to get one for a good price and they really are excellent televisions.

i have a 40" ccfl backlight model and it works great for dvd/br, ps3 games, and pc use.
i know someone with a 46" led model and it also seems to work great. using led backlighting also saves quite a bit of money on the power bill.

do you really need 120/240hz? not at all. the input signal is still only 60hz so all of the frames are just faked in. this could mean that during games there could be post processing lag on 120/240hz sets (i do know this is true with pc games) unless the 60hz game mode actually works (results seem to vary)
