Best Operating System and why?

'Best' depends on 'use'.

For my main system, Win 10 Pro 64bit
For my Asus Transformer, Win 10 Home 32bit (or 8.1)
For my NAS box, whatever Linux variant is in it
For my tablet, Android

For me Windows 10 is best. I'm a gamer and having the latest version of Windows helps ensure compatibility. I don't necessarily find it better than previous versions. It's just a platform. Many recent titles are still happy with 7.

Someone else may prefer Puppy, Mint or Sierra. Whatever fits their needs and or wants.

Sorry, should've been more descriptive. I meant for Laptops and PC.

I like Windows 10 too, as I'm using it right now. 7 is pretty cool. I just wish they hadn't forced the Windows 10 update on people.

And they love information. Takes a while to get some semblance of privacy with 10 after it's installed even if you deny everything during install.

My above list still holds true.

The NAS box is a little Linux PC. Does exactly what it needs to do.
The Asus Transformer is a little laptop
The main PC is a beast. Win 10 Pro, and various VM's of Linux and Server 2008 and 2016.
etc, etc....

There is no 'best' OS.
Each has good points and bad points, and is better or worse for specific uses.
