Mobo: gigabyte 970a d3p
Receiver : philips htr 5000

I just got the Philips htr 5000 for really cheap and wanted to hook it up to my PC the only way I could figure out was getting an red and white rca to 3.5mm jack converter but when in Windows it only recognized it as stereo even though the receiver supports Dolby pro logic II.
what cables should I buy to have my PC recognize that the audio coming in is 5.1 instead of stereo. Thanks

The PC will be the sound source
And right now I have the red and white rca cables running to a converter to 3.5mm jack into my computer

That's my problem when I look at the user manual for both my motherboard and receiver it just says
Receiver: 6ch in jacks
Motherboard: 6 audio jacks that support 2,4,5.1,7.1 channels...
What I've tried is to plug an Rca cable into one of the receiver holes then into my motherboard the rca cable doesn't fit my motherboard
If someone could explain what ports are on both the receiver and motherboard that would be great
