Solved! Blu-ray player not recognized as HDMI input by television (both LG)

I'm trying to setup a dvd/blu ray player for my grandma, but when I connect it to the television the tv keeps saying "no signal". When I use the same HDMI cable to connect to my MacBook it does give a signal. The player used to work perfectly fine with the previous owner's television. Are the player and TV just not compatible? Is there anyway to reset the player without any image?

TV: LG 32lh2000
Player: LG BP125

Thanks!

Is possible the player is set for 1080 and grandma's TV is only capable of 720? Take it home and see if it works on yours.

HDMI sometimes is a PITA. Try another cable, is free. Do not be set "this cable works somewhere else.

Was this a used player bought off craigslist or something and the previous owner "claimed" it worked perfectly fine? Or do you know for a fact it worked? Not to sound like the negative one but maybe it's just a broken player?

Thanks for your quick reply! The player used to belong to her son, who said it worked at his place. Unfortunately he unexpectedly passed away, so I can't ask him (which is also why I took over the job of setting up the player). It might have broken during the move, just wanted to make sure I'm not missing something before I buy a new one.

The TV is almost 10 years old, so it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't compatible with newer blu-ray players. Want to make sure buying a new player is worth the trouble, or whether that will have the same issue.

Can you take the player home and try it on your tv? I have (or had, my brother has it now) a sony projection tv I bought in 2007 and its hdmi works with newer blueray players. And if you do have to buy a new player, they're way cheaper now. I bought one a few years back on sale for $40.
