My wife may have allowed our windows 7 machine to catch a virus - it's acting oddly. I can easily download AVG or equivalent and it may or may not find and fix the alleged problems. However, I was wondering if there is some sort of bootable CD or USB setup I can create that will scan systems for viruses and malware without even loading the OS? I downloaded and burned Hirens Boot CD but when I chose the bitdefender virus option, it said there was no media or some error like that.

Is there such a rescue CD/USB setup that I can boot into, which will then update virus/mal defs and then scan the hard disks?

Thanks!
