Brand New Asus laptop - microphone not detecting sound.

I purchased a new Asus ROG Strix Gl553VE-FY040T [laptop] and was disappointed to find out that the internal mic was not picking my voice up. Attaching a headphone with external mic does not help either. When snapping my fingers close to the internal mic it picks up sound, but yelling form a distance doesn't activate it all. I downloaded the latest drivers to no avail, contacted customer support to no avail and tried disabling all the enhancements, increasing the microphone boost and volume to no avail. All it does it make my snaps pick up louder. As I had been promised by the advertising that the mic was 'optimal for gaming' I feel cheated, especially since everything else works so good. Please help guys,

What is your OS?

be sure to set volume levels on windows and on the app you use for chat/conference

if it is new, asus has support and you can contact them, or you can return the laptop if it is new and defective, remember it comes with a warranty
