So I bought a new laptop literally just for when I am home from University for things like working on word documents etc, there's hardly anything at all on it. However, it is very slow and crashes a lot with programs such as word just for pressing save, however I spotted this was at 100% usage with just 1 word doc open. Any ideas why this could be, I don't know what to do with it basically having nothing installed? Thanks.

Intel i5 - 5200u 2.2ghz
8gb RAM
1TB HDD

This is where you can see disk usage: https://gyazo.com/27c134e3f11d3678d44157e8e6c42612

thanks again

Solution

Either it is a defective drive (unlikely), or there are too many applications running automatically (likely).

Discover what is actually running.

"new laptop"

What make/model?
Often, new laptops are FULL of bloatware, bringing an otherwise rational system to its knees.

If it IS all the included bloatware, do a full OS wipe and reinstall of a clean OS. Magical.
If it is NOT bloatware....send it back as defective.
