BSoD registry error when computer is idle

About 2 months ago I got a new laptop for gaming (Lenovo Y50-70 Touch) and hadn't had any problems with it until about a week ago when I got Borderlands: The Pre Sequel on Steam.
The game installed incorrectly twice so I wanted to make sure there wasn't something wrong on my end and launched the defrag tool. As soon as I launched it, I got an immediate blue screen because of a registry error. Now whenever I leave my computer alone for 1-3 minutes, it happens again.
It won't happen if I am watching videos or movies, or if I am playing a game (although it will still happen if I pause the game, leaving it unpaused and just hiding somewhere while I go to the bathroom or something like that seems to work just fine). Basically, as long as I am pressing keys or using the mouse, it doesn't have a single problem. Please help, I am getting desperate over here.

Sounds like you might have a disk error. Run the built-in diagnostics to see if the drive passes (from BIOS I believe). Also run a disk check but I wouldn't check the auto-fix option. You could also perform a system restore to a point before you installed the Border Lands prequel and try installing it again. Good luck.

I'm sorry, but how do I do this? I'm kind of a complete idiot when it comes to this stuff

Alright, what you do is open up device manager (Right click on Computer and go to Manage). Then select "Device Manager." Expand the section that says "disk drives" and check who manufactured your hard drive. The drive on my computer starts with "WD" meaning that it's a Western Digital hard drive. I would then go to their downloads section and download the software.

Some manufacturers have in-Windows tools and some are self-booting and run outside of Windows. If you need help, send over your drive manufacturer and I will try to send you steps or a guide.

Mine is a Western Digital Solid State Hybrid drive. I ran the quick test and it passed. Should I run the extended test too? It says that it may take several hours on larger drives, and mine is 1TB. I want to get this fixed, but at the same time, I have nothing to do today and I don't want to sit around for that long.

It will take a while, I would run it over night... however, my bet is that it won't detect anything since the quicktest passed. I would also look for a new BIOS version, and firmware for your drive. Go to the Lenovo support site and find your computer based on make/model. There might be a Lenovo update tool on your computer that does this, you can run that. I believe it's called Lenovo Solution Center.

Okay, I think it is fixed now. Just watched the last hour of Batman Begins on HBO and left my laptop running on the table next to me and it didn't have a single problem. Thanks for all your help!
