Camera can't save photos

I bought an SD card to put my photos on and set it up to receive all of them but it doesn't seem to be working. I keep getting a message telling me the photo can't be saved. There is about 14GB of storage left on the card.
Phone is Sony Xperia Z1 compact
Can anyone help, please?

Im not familiar with Sony but did you checked your phone if it has a folder named "DCIM" either on the root or not?
