I'm using an MSI CR460 on a Pentium B940 CPU. I've checked and there are later produced laptops of a similar model that use the i7 core. I don't really want to remove my motherboard though and am wondering how possible it is to upgrade (I was looking at the i7-2640M).

What are your recommendations and what advice do you have regarding performance with my computer?

(Also, I'm stuck on 32-bit and although it is capable of going onto 62-bit, it refuses).

It depends, install CPU-Z and see if that program says whether the CPU socket is BGA (ball grid array) or LGA (land grid array). If LGA, then yes you can upgrade the CPU, if BGA then no (unless you use sodering tools).

Yes to both, but for some reason it refuses. I've attempted to install the 64bit several times. It winds back up on 32bit.
