i have a Logitech 5.1 speakers which i have connected to my pc motherboard (ASUS P8Z77) which outputs stereo sound, first of all i wanted to ask that can't i get 5.1 surround sound through these speakers without a receiver by connecting them directly to motherboard through S/PDIF out and if in this case i really need a receiver to get true 5.1 surround sound can i use my (DVD Player) as a receiver?

(ASUS P8Z77) http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z77V/#specifications

(DVD Player) http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/archive/DV-120-K/page.html

I really wish I could just find a simple solution. I can't find a single simple solution from anywhere over the internet that makes sense to me, without having to just post questions myself.
Thanks in advance for your help.

thanks for prompt reply,
ok leave the Dvd aside and tell me that can't my mother board act as an amplifier or receiver as my mother board is new and it has the best inbuilt Realtek® ALC892 8-Channel sound card?
one more thing tell me a best solution to make 5.1 surround system with these speakers.

If your speakers have 3 analog audio mini plug input jacks then you need to connect all of them to the mobo and set the audio driver control panel up. If you use a spdif input to the speakers then you will need to set up the driver correctly as well. You could switch the input of the speakers to the DVD with a toslink switch such as this

so the speakers will work for both.

What exactly are you having issues with? Read the manual to the motherboard and the speakers, between those it should tell you what you need to do.
