Can the HTC vive cameras be set in less than 15x15 feet and function?

Basically its for smaller room setups, does the game recognize my cameras are closer and adjust the gameplay accordingly?

15x15 is the max. 6x5.5 is the min.

From experience, it is worth mounting them on the wall. Tripods work, but if it is best to keep them locked in place and away from hitting them with your move space. Also mount them high for the best tracking results.
