Just ordered a Canon XT. I want to get a better flash unit for mostly
shooting cars and bikes during the day (fill in). Can someone give me some
recommendations? Looking for best value!

Thanks

I have the Canon 420ex and the 550ex. The 420 can be had at B&H for $180.
Good price and a good flash. Frankly I like it better then the 550; I've
had better luck with it.

Again, 420 EX--fills the gym for basketball/volleyball with my
300D--also quite subtle as a filler for family dinner shots, etc.

When I got my D Rebel the dealer suggested, and I got, a Sigma EF-500
DG ST.

It works, I have not compared it to any other type.

Does not play well with others.

I use the Sunpak 383 flash.

Its not a ttl or e-ttl unit so you have to use it in "manual" but it works
well, and has a tilt and swivle hear.

Cost is around 65 - 85 dollars (US)

Its biggest advantage is that it is compatible with Canons low trigger
voltage limit.

Better than any flash Canon makes except the 580. Has real controls that
the 420 lacks, has more features and a lower price than the 550. A good buy
for anyone from consumer to semi-pro.
