Can't get audio through tv when connecting to computer

Hello.I have just hooked my computer up to my tv using hdmi.However my computer only had a dvi port so I am using a dvi to hdmi adapter.I have been unable to get audio to come through the tv and I have tried to enable it in the audio settings on my computer.Is it because of the dvi port? Any ideas on how I can get it working? Thanks

I use a dvi-I to hdmi cable and the sound works for me but you may have to set things in the audio manager and its driver supported. like with my amd card you need the hi-def audio driver installed

but also I don't believe the adaptors will carry the audio signal just the full wired cable ones [that's the way I remember it ]
