CD drive isn`t working.

I have an Acer Aspire 1410 ZL1, with an Slimtype DVDRW SOSW 852S. I got that laptop as a gift from my cousin, and it was working fine for about 6 months, then the CD stopped reading any kind of CD`s,after that it stopped ejecting when i press the button, so i need to force eject it. I tried to investigate it, and i found in the event viewer that it says that the driver detected an error with the controller.So please help if you can.
NOTE:I don`t have internet on this laptop,and it runs Windows XP SP3.

Doesn't sound too good.

Did this start after an update?

Try uninstalling the drive in hardware manager then rebooting and let Windows reinstall.

Something similar happened to my old laptop where it couldn't read DVDs only CDs. Never really figured out the cause.

This did not started after an update, because i never had internet on it, i tried to reinstall it but it still isnt working.
