I bought an Asus VK-248 the other day and I wanted to know if I could somehow connect my basic receiver to it. The monitor is 24'' led backlit lcd running at 1080p.

Here's the list of possible connections.
Monitor: HDMI, VGA, DVI
Receiver: S-Video, coax, and RCA?(Red,White,Yellow cables)

I looked into it and was able to find an adapter for RCA to HDMI.

Would this help me successfully convert the picture coming from my Directv box to my monitor?

Will it be completely 1080p since I'm using an adapter? Please help, I'm very desperate!

Solution
Most people run their TV signal through the computr using a TV tuner (that's what I do with my rigs), unless your monitor has a built in tuner, don't know of any other way off hand.

Could I run the RCA cords into a small RCA to hdmi adapter then connect the hdmi from the adapter to my hdmi port on my monitor?

You would need to convert the composite video and analog audio (red/white/yellow) to the input of the monitor you want to use. To use the VGA you need one of these

To use HDMI you need one of these

The adapter in you post will not work since you do not have component video on the receiver box.
Whatever you use you will not get better than 480i which will look pretty bad on the monitor. I would get an HD receiver if I could rather than spend money on the adapter.
