How do I connect a Sony 55 inch TV, cable box, PlayStation 3, and surroundsound? Right now everything is connected through HDMI cable’s except for the cable box to the television is connected with a set of five other cables that I cannot put into the new TV. There are not enough HDMI cables in the cable box to connect another one. Do I need another one?

Solution
You connect the cable box to the TV with HDMI. The surround sound also connects to the TV.
Depending on the exact make and model of TV and HTS they can connect different ways.
If the HTS has a disc player it would connect to the TV with HDMI. If both the TV and HTS have ARC then that same cable would send audio from the cable box through the TV to the HTS. If either doesn't support ARC then you will need to add a cable from the audio output of the TV to the HTS. ARC and the optical audio out usually have to be configured in the TV menu to work.
Without makes and model numbers we can't check what connections you have available.
1. If your cable box doesn't have HDMI out then call your provider and get one that does. That will connect to the TV with a single HDMI cable instead of the component video+audio RCA cables you have now. If it does have HDMI you replace the old cables with one HDMI. You may need to change a setting in the box to get the HDMI output working. Call your cable provider if you need help. Let them earn their money.
2. There are a number of options on how to connect your surround sound. If it doesn't have a disc player you can connect it to the audio output of the TV. There are more than one way to do this and you may need a DAC.
3. If the TV doesn't have enough HDMI inputs then you need to get an external HDMI input selector to increase the number.

Thanks all for the help. I was able to connect the tv to the cable box with hdmi. Then the tv to the surround sound with hdmi. Then bought an optical cable to connect the surround sound to the cable box. PlayStation was already connected so just left it.
