Connecting Panasonic DMR to new LG smart TV

I get sound for my videos but an intermittent picture. It flashes on and then off again. On for 20 seconds and then off for more than its on.
I've checked the options AV etc but nothing makes any difference. DVD's on this DMR play ok I think. (It's a video, he'd, sad, and vhs player...too precious to get rid of as I still have wedding and old sentimental videos I want to be able to play)
The DMR player has a scart, a red and white pin cable going to tv. However, there are corresponding empty red, green and yellow sockets on both the LG smart tv and the Panasonic DMR. Any ideas?

If DVDs playback correctly then the problem may be in the VCR portion of the DMR.
