She also admitted to sending a nude photo of herself first.
Uh, what? Sounds like her plan all along was to either have sex with this guy so he'd help her with her case, or to blackmail him.

Granted, the cop was a moron who should have known better. He should have just taken that first email and had the D.A. charge her with attempted bribery and solicitation.

First of all, it is really sad to see cases like this where police abuse their authority. In New Mexico, a few months ago, a police officer was arrested after it was discovered that he took a drunk female suspect to her home and raped her several times. Maybe he thought she wouldn't remember.

However, another issue this brings to light is just how technically UNsavvy a lot of these law enforcement officers are. Yet they want to be able to search your laptop at borders, and as some have proposed, during a traffic stop if your laptop is in plain view. I could just see it now...

Cop: Hey... you've got pictures of little kids on here.
Citizen: Uh, those are my children.
Cop: Why are they naken?
Citizen: *Looking incredulous* Uh... because they are taking a bath.
Cop: CHILD PORN! You're under arrest!!

[citation][nom]08nwsula[/nom]crooked cop, imagine that.[/citation]

Yes, but it's the women who initiated it, by her own admission. This puts the cop on a little less guilty level, but doesn't save him.

That's a cheap trick. She gets off her charges (I think), doesn't follow through with the arrangement, and instead gets the guy in a load of trouble. Of course he was in the wrong too, but damn he got played hard.

One of my ex's got a cops email address too after her ex bf scared her. She was sure he was trying to pick her up. Most cops are sleezy, crooked bastards - it's no wonder they have such a high divorce rate.

"the 44-year-old police officer contacted the woman by email and offered his help to dismiss the drunken driving charge in exchange for sex."

Looks like he initiated it, she just sent the first picture to play along and get more evidence from the douche. It might be a little hard to bust a cop based on one email and your word.

How dumb do you have to be to use email (your work's, no less) in such a way?

Welcome to 95% of ALL police officers (and especially Sherrifs). A bunch of freaking rejects in highschool that now are eager to show just how cool they are. SO much so, that they are willing beat you and ask question later. Willing to pull you over without any probable cause and who is going to whole the police responsible since the police hold everyone else responsible? This whole legal and enforcement system is on the verge of collapsing on itself.

Not enough journalism going on here. I'll need to see the picture she sent to the police officer before I can decide who to blame. :p

What if the guy had something for the girl, and reverse?
He can only be charged if the woman was bothered by his actions, or by the time he spend in his workinghours doing private stuff, as well as using work computers for personal issues.

I am happy to see this citizen report this abuse. It is also refreshing to know that the laws were carefully considered so he could be charged to fullest extent of the law. This is the system working at its finest.
