Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz vs Celeron N2815 vs Atom Z3740

Solution
Atom Z3740. It has four cores and is significantly newer than the other two. This CPU is also designed for mobile devices so it won't fit any generic motherboards (in case you're thinking of buying this CPU separately).

Thanks! I was asking because I'm considering upgrading from my current 2009 laptop, which has the Core 2 Duo, to a more current budget laptop for Office/Web use. The Asus K200MA has the Celeron and the Asus T100TA (w/ 500GB HDD) has the Atom. Still undecided between the two, but its nice to know I won't be accidentally downgrading lol

PS I actually prefer AMD processors, though I don't know of any decent laptops in the 250-350 range with AMD CPUs

You forgot to mention the Core 2 Duo's capability to make the laptop serve as a frying pan :)

Yes it was :) thanks for the info! I've just been looking into some smaller, lighter laptops that would be easier to lug all day at school. Ever since my old HP with a dual core AMD Turion died, my fault :(, this Core 2 feels slow. It does tend to heat up, but has never been cleaned. Just wanna find out if I'd be able to see any performance inprovement if I were to invest in a laptop with the Celeron or Atom. I'm also looking into low priced AMD A series and 3rd gen i3 powered laptops
