Creating Green Screen Special Effects

I am currently in the process of making a short film. I am ordering a green screen and video/audio editing software. I am purchasing Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12 Suite. I have movie lights. All I need is help with green screen effects. I would like to know if there is a way to create my own.

For example: I would like to create a special effect of an alien ship swooping down and shooting a space blaster of some sort.

I would like to know where I can find the software required to do that. I would also appreciate a price on said software. I am willing to pay no more than $100.

DebugMode Wax is a video compositing and special effects software and is a free download.
Blender is also a free download and may be worth a look.

As far as the green screen goes it should be relatively easy to key out the green background and depending on the software the green screen should be on a track above what you want to replace the green screen.

There may be a way to create motion effects with Sony Movie Studio but I can't say for sure as I have never used it.
