How do I recover a Dell Vostro 1500 and a Dell XPS M1530 laptop from Blue Screen of Death?

Can I recover any of the files on them if I have an additional or portable hard drive?

You can pull the hard drives out, get an external enclosure to mount the HDD in and hook it up to your woking computer.

That is beyond my ability and I'll have to accept that my music is gone.

All of the reboot options (Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Last working ...) result in BSOD w/ no title at the Top and

Download yourselves some LiveCD Linux (e.g. Ubuntu, https/help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD). Make sure you burn it as an image, not as a file. Boot your laptop (press F12 to choose boot source) with that CD, locate your music on the hard drive, and copy it over to an external hard disk (or USB key).
