Dell vostro 1510 dvd quit playing

The cd player on the dell 1510 works fine, but the dvd player was working, but not working anymore

A typical DVD drive has a CD laser diode and a DVD laser diode. It could be that the DVD Laser has malfunctioned or failed. Even with the DVD laser failing, your drive will still be able to read CD's, as it is a separate laser.
