@zipzoomflyhigh : yes the second specs are for the dell laptop.

basically i want to know how the nvidia card in the hp laptop fares against the ati card in the dell.

also what about the heating issues in hp.

well both the processors are 520m its just a misprint.

and what about the customer service is hp's service as good as dell's?

I'd avoid both.....both were probably made by the same vendor.

The vast majority of laptops on the market are manufactured by a small handful of Original Design Manufacturers (ODM).

Major relationships include:

* Quanta sells to (among others) HP/Compaq, Dell, Toshiba, Sony, Fujitsu, Acer, NEC, Gateway and Lenovo/IBM - note that
* Compal sells to Toshiba, HP/Compaq, Acer, and Dell.
* Wistron (former manufacturing & design division of Acer) sells to HP/Compaq, Dell, IBM, NEC, Acer, and Lenovo/IBM.
* Flextronics (former Arima Computer Corporation notebook division) sells to HP/Compaq, NEC, and Dell.
* ECS sells to IBM, Fujitsu, and Dell.
* Asus sells to Apple (iBook), Sony, and Samsung.
* Inventec sells to HP/Compaq, Toshiba, and BenQ.
* Uniwill sells to Lenovo/IBM and Fujitsu.

I prefer to use a boutique vendor who will custom build to my specs based upon ODM's such as Clevo which cater to the enthusiast market. You can read about and find a vendor here:

Alternately I would look at the new Asus lines whose pricing is extremely competitive.

Both are built to about the same standard, as they come built from the same company, as JackNaylorPE has stated.

Speakers in notebooks are a moot subject - they're all bad by definition. You just can't make good sounding speakers in a cramped space like that. They all sound tinny and unbalanced.

yeah both may be built by same company but it also depends on which company is actually selling the notebook. also depends on the chip set approved by the seller.

HP laptops tend to be hot. and company has a bad track record of not recalling any faulty laptops.
I speak from experience of TX1410US.
it had a faulty chip set that had already been recalled in an another laptop series but was used again in the TX1000 series. HP is aware of the problems it created and even then has not done anything with regards to this laptop.

in the end the choice depends on the fact as which chip set the manufacturer has used in your laptop.
